Human Activity & Biodiversity
Human ActivityConservation
The Memorandum of Understanding Concerning, the Conservation of the Manatee, and Small Cetaceans of Western Africa and Macaronesia have all included the Atlantic Spotted Dolphin in their conservation projects. Human ImpactThough it is illegal, harpoon fishermen occasionally target Atlantic Spotted Dolphin. Every year some dolphins are trapped and killed in gill nets or shot. These problems are not currently known to be decreasing the population but the issue still needs to be fixed.

BiodiversityPopulation
The population of the Atlantic spotted dolphin verifies on the location. They have been divided into two stocks: The Northern Gulf of Mexico stock and The Western North Atlantic stock. 24,500-31,000 is the estimated population in the Northern Gulf of Mexico and 36,000-51,000 is the estimated population in the Western North Atlantic. Contributes to diversityDolphins have a BIG part in the food chain. Humans keep the fish population low, but Dolphins keep it level. If Dolphins were not a part of the food chain than there would be too much Tuna and if there was too much Tuna than the Herring population would go down drastically, not giving the Puffins enough food, which would then starve them, and that would decrease the Puffin population.
